First-Time Lash Extensions in NYC: What to Expect

Getting lash extensions for the first time can feel exciting, but it is completely normal to have questions about the process, comfort, style, and aftercare.

At ALLASH Studio in Midtown Manhattan, your first appointment begins with a personal consultation. We discuss the look you want, evaluate your natural lashes, and help you choose a length, curl, and level of fullness that complement your eyes.

Your lash set is then customized specifically for you. The application is gentle and relaxing, and your eyes remain closed throughout the appointment. When applied correctly, eyelash extensions should feel lightweight and comfortable.

Before you leave, we explain how to care for your new lashes and when to schedule your first fill, so you know exactly what to expect after the appointment.

What Happens During Your First Lash Appointment?

Your appointment begins with a consultation about the result you want. You can show reference photos or simply describe whether you prefer a subtle, natural, or more noticeable look.

Next, we examine your natural lashes and choose an appropriate length, curl, thickness, and style. A customized lash map is created to complement your eye shape and keep the extensions comfortable.

Before the application begins, the eye area is gently cleansed, and the lower lashes are protected. Your eyes remain closed while each extension is carefully applied to an individual natural lash.

The procedure should feel calm and comfortable. When the set is complete, we check the final shape and make sure the lashes feel lightweight before reviewing your aftercare instructions.
You don’t need to know lashes.
You just need to know how you want to feel.

How to Prepare for Your First Lash Appointment

Arrive with clean lashes and no eye makeup. Mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow, and oil-based products around the eyes can interfere with the adhesive and take extra time to remove.

If you wear contact lenses, bring a case and remove them before the procedure. Your eyes will remain closed for an extended period, so removing contacts will help you stay comfortable.

Avoid curling your lashes or applying waterproof mascara before the appointment. Natural lashes should be clean and in their usual condition so we can properly evaluate them and create the right design.

Plan enough time for your consultation and full application. Wear comfortable clothing, silence your phone, and feel free to bring inspiration photos—we’ll use them as a reference while adapting the final look to your eyes and natural lashes.

Choosing Your First Lash Style

For your first appointment, you do not need to know exactly which lash style to choose. During the consultation, we’ll help you find the right balance between a natural result, added definition, and comfortable everyday wear.

Classic lash extensions create a clean, mascara-like effect by adding one lightweight extension to each suitable natural lash. This is often a good starting point if you want subtle length and definition.

Natural 2D lash extensions use delicate two-lash fans to create soft fullness while keeping the result lightweight. They are ideal if your natural lashes are fine, have small gaps, or you want slightly more density than a Classic set.

Hybrid lash extensions combine individual extensions with lightweight fans for added texture and dimension. They can still look soft and balanced, but the result is usually more noticeable than Classic or Natural 2D.

How to Care for Your New Lash Extensions

For the first 24 hours, avoid excessive moisture, steam, and direct heat around your new lashes. This gives the adhesive enough time to set properly and helps improve retention.

Clean your lash extensions regularly with a gentle, oil-free lash cleanser. Keeping the lash line free from makeup, natural oils, and buildup helps your extensions stay fresh and supports healthy natural lashes.

Avoid rubbing or pulling your lashes, and do not use an eyelash curler or waterproof mascara. When drying your face, gently pat around the eyes instead of pressing or wiping the extensions.

Brush your lashes lightly with a clean spoolie when needed. We’ll also explain your personal aftercare routine before you leave, so caring for your first lash set feels simple and manageable.

When Should You Schedule Your First Lash Fill?

Most clients schedule their first lash fill approximately two to three weeks after the initial appointment. The ideal timing depends on your natural lash cycle, daily routine, skincare products, and how well the extensions are cared for at home.

It is normal to lose some extensions as your natural lashes complete their growth cycle. A fill replaces extensions that have shed and restores the shape and fullness of the original design.

Try not to wait until most of the extensions are gone. If too few lashes remain, the appointment may require more time and could be considered a new full set rather than a regular fill.

Before you leave your first appointment, we’ll recommend a refill schedule based on your lash set and natural lashes. Regular maintenance helps keep the result balanced, lightweight, and polished.
